Rick Epstein’s intense love of nature and study of bas-relief throughout history led to his work in three-dimensional hand-sculpted landscapes, produced in two construction techniques: one in which clay slabs are sculpted upon and fired, and the other in which paper clay and plaster are sculpted over metal armature and wood. Based in Massachusetts, his sculpted landscapes feature tree branches, forest paths, shadows, and changing daylight.
