Returning to the Gracie Square Art Show, Long Island-based mixed media artist Lawrence Agnello creates works characterized by “broken objects from the past, intricately assembled.” Agnello’s sculptures and mosaics are upcycled from machine parts, broken glass and stone, old wood, and found objects. Parts may come from antique clocks, cameras, typewriters, adding machines, and sewing machines. Masks are one of Agnello’s favorite subjects, inspired during his travel in Africa in 1990 by the creation of African masks using found objects.
