Schaller paints using a beeswax-based medium mixed with pigment, known as encaustic. This ancient technique involves keeping the paint molten and fusing it through heat, making it highly durable due to beeswax's resistance to moisture. The quick drying time captures the brushstroke's gesture, a characteristic that has made encaustic his preferred medium since 1997.​
