Art Form: Oils/Acrylics
Booth Number: 29
Chris Curchin works primarily in oil on both abstract and figurative paintings. His abstract paintings involve multiple layers of slow drying oil glazes, with heavily marked and scratched surfaces in a kind of free-form sgraffito. His figurative paintings focus on faces and eyes, decorated with dots of color, an expression of an allusion to mortality, matter, and energy fields. Chris studied film and animation at the Philadelphia College of Art (now University of the Arts) and began painting in 1985, showing regularly and helping to run the Highwire Cooperative through the 1990s.
